Isles of Scilly

Mike Edge introduced his talk on the History of the Isles of Scilly to the very large audience at Ticknall Village Hall by stating he had been visiting the Isles each year for 50 years. He explained how there are 400 archaeological sites dating from the Early Bronze Age including 47 Entrance Graves.

The Isles were popular with the Phonetician Traders who visited to buy tin and Henry the Eighth built defensive walls on St Mary’s.  To defend the country during the Spanish Armada Queen Elizabeth I built the Star Castle.
