Ticknall Cricket Club

Ticknall Cricket Club is a village club, based at The Grange, in a rural location, in the heart of South Derbyshire. The ground, overlooked by the village church, and graced with a new pavilion, built in 2000, is considered by many as one of the prettiest grounds in Derbyshire.

Ticknall is only a small village, but the club has a big heart, and has grown from small beginnings to become one of the larger cricket clubs in Derbyshire, with its membership being drawn from the village and surrounding areas. We are a forward thinking club, which holds the values and future of the game in the highest regard. With this in mind, we concentrate heavily on the development of junior and youth cricket, which now accounts for two thirds of our total membership numbering more than 200. Total club membership is now in excess of 500..

Our 1st XI have been promoted to the Derbyshire Premier League for the 2008 season, this being one of the top leagues in the country, sporting 5 clubs who have played at Lords in national club finals. The other three sides play in The Derbyshire County League, and a range of junior sides that start at Under 11’s and progress through the age groups to an Under 17’s squad. In all our junior sides we boast a number of District and County players and three Midlands players. For a village club this is a terrific achievement of which we are justifiably proud, our thanks must go to the players, and the coaches. Every weekend there are a number of young players turning out to play for all of our senior sides.

We also have a Kwik Cricket section (7-10 yrs), which now include a number of girls. Also in 2005 we established FUNdamentals section, which caters for boys and girls (5-8 yrs) to develop fitness and skills. This section now numbers 60-70 boys and girls.

Most of the coaching, management of the teams and practice sessions are carried out by club members on a voluntary basis. The Club has recently been awarded ‘Club Mark’, which is a national certificate of accreditation for the running and management of the club, being only the 4th Cricket Club in Derbyshire to achieve this status.

Last year we have improved our facilities with the new practice nets and new sightscreens, paid for out of club funds, lottery grant and sponsorship. This coming year we plan to resurface our artificial pitch on the cricket square and increase our storage area for equipment and machinery. Our fixtures list can be found here.
