Home Community Scarecrow Group Scarecrow Trail

Scarecrow Trail

We had a fantastic turnout over both days (5th and 6th July) with people coming from far and wide and the village positively buzzing with people of all ages looking at all of the fantastic Scarecrows.

Ticknall is a thriving Village with many clubs and groups meeting regularly; the Scarecrow trail was inclusive and allowed all participants to show their skill and enthusiasm and as such the residents had well and truly supported the event and we had 73 Scarecrows spread throughout the Village to look at. We had originally planned for 70 but others were added on the day by people not wanting to miss out on all the fun. There was a quiz for everyone to enter with clues relating to the Scarecrow characters, the number of completed entry forms showed this to be popular.

The voting for the “best scarecrow” was also well supported with people obviously wanting to show their appreciation of the very high standards set by the Scarecrow builders. The winning Scarecrow was “The Blacksmith” by David and Sarah Tucker.

The Ticknall WI provided refreshments in the Village Hall on the Saturday and the Dame Catherine Harper School did the same on the Sunday. Although the Trail was not intended as a charity fund raising effort but as an activity/fun weekend for the entire village to join in, we did raise a good sum of money that will be donated to our various chosen charities:

  • £500 to Rainbows Hospice,
  • £500 to Dame Catherine Harpur School and
  • £500 towards the Ticknall Parish Council Newsletter, and starting a luncheon club for the older residents in the village.
Look out next year because this will definitely become an annual Ticknall event.

Chairman, Ticknall Scarecrow Committee.
