Me&Dee, a registered charity, was set up after the death from cancer of Maria Hanson's cousin Delia Worrall in 2005. Delia had been like a "big sister" to Maria and they had dreamt of working together to give treats to people suffering from debilitating conditions.
Maria is herself disabled, having been diagnosed with a painful spine and neurological condition in 1998 that has meant undergoing surgery on 16 occasions.
In spite of this, Maria continues to work tirelessly to realise the dream that she and Delia had to bring treats to others who are disabled by debilitating illness.
Efforts are guided by the charity's straightforward motto:- "Special moments when time is precious"
Treats take many forms, such as days out, tickets to the theatre, expensive toys, and limousine rides.
Maria raises the money by organising barn dances, craft fairs, mince pie nights and coffee mornings. During 2009, she raised enough money to give 19 treats to the value of £100 to people with disabilities.
