Many thanks to Celia Bunston for alerting us to the problem with the login/create account routine, which only happened to people who were using Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser.
It turns out that I was one of only a handful of people around the world using the particular software that I use for this website, and having this problem. Luckily, one of them, Paulo in Italy stumbled upon a fix. I have applied the fix to the code and the problem has gone away. Oh! the joys of the world wide Open Source community!
