Howard Drury, who is a horticultural broadcaster, speaker, lecturer, writer, advisor and consultant, revisited the Ticknall Garden Club onTuesday 19 May to speak about his visit to Madeira. However he chose to talk about Ireland instead!
He gave a very professional video presentation suitably accompanied by Irish music and song, and covered the County Wicklow Garden TrailĀ and the Best Gardens of Dublin which included that of garden writer and television presenter, Helen Dillon. There was beautiful scenery as well as beautiful gardens.
Howard also gave hints on pruning, and suggested plants for well drained areas. He gave some modern ideas which dealt with trouble free gardening, including help for the more mature gardener, such as raised or graveled areas with alpines to eliminate the need for mowing grass. This made a very interesting and informative evening.
The next meeting of the Club will be on Tuesday 16 June instead of 9th June as that is the week of the Garden Club visit to Cumbria. On that occasion Jeff Bates will talk about garden diseases.
