Magazine Review Winter into Spring

Winter into Spring

On Tuesday, 9 February 2010 Justin Plants came to the Ticknall Garden Club to talk about Winter into Spring. Justin is a nurseryman with a garden of eight and a half acres in which he grows and experiments with his plants. He has a stall on Burton Market three times a week. He nearly filled the village hall with plants of all sorts ranging from shrubs to primroses. Justin had no slides and no pictures but held the audience enthralled with his talk, illustrated with the plants he had brought.

He dealt with colour in the winter and the need to contrast and complement different shapes of leaf and plant. He also dealt with the need to feed and water at the right time of  year and spoke about pruning, particularly when to do it. He finished by taking questions from the audience

Finally, many of the plants he had brought were eagerly bought by members of the audience to bring winter colour to their gardens.

Ticknall Garden Club’s January Meeting was cancelled due to inclement weather. The next meeting of the club will be on Tuesday, 9 March 2010 when David Tideswell will take “A Seasonal Look at Birds”.
