Welcome!
Each year, the Melbourne Historical Research Group aims to investigate and record a particular aspect of Melbourne's history, and present a travelling exhibition of the findings, which will be updated as the work progresses. Any items given to the Group in connection with its projects will be used to gradually create a permanent exhibition/museum/research room in the Leisure Centre, and (where suitable) items will be used for educational work with local groups and schools.
It is not necessary to be a member of the group to get involved. You don't need to have had a long association with Melbourne to make a worthwhile contribution, nor do you need a lot of time on your hands. Whether you have months or minutes to spare, the Group is keen to involve as many people as possible. We would be pleased to hear from anyone who:-
- Would like to share their memories connected with our current project.
- Has interesting items connected with our current project.
- Would like to undertake some original research.
- Can help with presenting our exhibition material (computer skills would be especially welcome!)
- Has time to help with staffing our exhibition.
- Would like to type up interviews and old documents.
- Can help us to trace former residents, employees etc.
If you can help, please contact the Chairman (Philip Heath) on 01332 864873, or any member of the group.
