Melbourne

Melbourne is a well-preserved and attractive place, and in all of its main streets there are features that attract the curiosity and interest of residents and visitors alike. But underneath the skin, the social structure of Melbourne has changed dramatically within the last couple of generations.

The old industries that once supported most of the inhabitants have faded, and ways of life that were normal only fifty years ago now seem quaint and picturesque.

The survival of the buildings is fortunate, but they mean little without an understanding of the thoughts and attitudes of the people who built and used them.
