Ticknall Village Store

Ticknall Village Store is a traditionally run village shop with the community at it's heart. We pride ourselves on our friendly service and go out of our way to make our customers feel welcome and appreciated. Many people have entered our shop as customers and departed as friends.

Our location on the busy main road and in the middle of Ticknall village makes us ideal for everybody from locals buying our freshly baked local bread to travellers passing through and purchasing one of our famous genuine Cornish pasties or our freshly filled rolls that are made on the premises.

Our everyday items like bread, milk, tea, coffee and newspapers are competitively priced and represent a very economical alternative to an expensive car or bus journey to the nearest shops in Ashby or Melbourne. We stock a good selection of groceries as well as chilled wines and beer for your summer barbeques and impromptu parties, coal and wood for those cold winter's nights, tobacco products, sweets and chocolate (we all need a treat once in a while), dry cleaning, greetings cards for that last moment realisation that the big day has been forgotten - and more.

People looking to explore the beautiful local countryside in and around Calke Park can purchase everything from local guide and history books through to picnic items, ice creams and hot cups of tea and coffee to make their visit even more enjoyable.

Or maybe you just want to pop in and have a chat; our friendly staff will always make you feel welcome. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Hello the Pezzac's.

As you read my name it must have jolted your memory, as the name is on the shop title deeds up to 1963.

Looking through the Ticknall website I saw the shop photo.

My father & mother purchased these stores around 1948, when I was about 8 years old. My Dad sold the shop when I categorically refused to remain working at the shop, due to myself, having had 15 years of night & day working for six & half days per week.
I have very many memories of the 15 years, should you wish to hear of them. The shop kept 5 of us plus two part timers & a lady cleaner in gainfull employment.

Kind regards,
John Decamps.
