Village Village Knowle Hill

Knowle Hill

Knowle Hill house is tucked away in the north of Ticknall Parish. The usual means of approach is by foot. In this romantic spot bachelor and retired lawyer, Walter Burdett, built himself a country house about 1701. Little remains today except some service rooms probably constructed for Sir Robert Burdett of Foremark. It is now owned by the Landmark Trust so is available for holiday lettings.

A walk past the building, featured below, is well worth the effort. In the words of Dr Spencer Hall the location "... is one of those strange, solitary and mysterious places" (from "Days in Derbyshire").

O.S. Grid Reference: SK352257

For further details see Knowle Hill by Howard Usher, revised in 1995, for the Ticknall Preservation and Historical Society. Price List and Order Form here.
