Another great couple of days were had by all who entered the competition and all who visited the village for Ticknall's 2nd Scarecrow Trail weekend on 4 and 5 July 2009.
The weather was kind to us with sunshine on both days, and this bought visitors out in their hundreds; the Village was absolutely buzzing with people, the pubs and shop reporting record takings.
We had over 77 Scarecrows this year with the standard even higher than last year; one local resident even dressed up as a live one !
We also had a record number of entries to the two quizzes which accompany the trail, particularly in the under 15’s category.
Refreshments in the Village hall were provided by the WI on Saturday and the Luncheon Club on Sunday, greatly appreciated by weary visitors.
Refreshments were also provided on The Green by willing volunteers also greatly appreciated by all.
As last year, the event is not specifically planned as a fund raiser but as an opportunity for the whole community to participate in and enjoy. However, we did raise an amazing £2700, which will be split equally between:
- Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance
- Derbyshire Childrens Holiday Home in Skegness
- Local event for the Village youth (TBC)
This years Best Scarecrow as voted by visitors was :-
- Scarecrow-batics
- Monsineur le chef
- Mary Poppins
Plans are already afoot for next years event which we will try to make as successful.
Thanks
Jake Fleetwood
