A comprehensive guide showcasing what is on offer at this year’s National Forest Walking Festival is now available.
The Festival has continued to expand in recent years, and in 2010 more than 1,200 walkers – a record number - enjoyed walks across South Derbyshire, East Staffordshire and parts of Leicestershire.
This year’s offering, which begins on May 21, promises to go the extra mile, with nearly 60 walks over 12 days, making it one of the biggest walking festivals in the region. Walks for all ages and abilities are on offer, from a one-mile family fun stroll to a 13-mile ramble.
All 59 feature in the new guide, which can be downloaded at: www.thenationalforestwalkingfestival.org.uk.
Cllr Bob Wheeler, Leader of South Derbyshire District Council, said: “We are very proud of The National Forest Walking Festival, which has continued to go from strength to strength over the last few years.
“It always proves extremely popular, and offers a great choice of guided walks in the scenic backdrop of The National Forest, which is renowned for its rolling countryside, meandering rivers and canals and picturesque historic villages.
“This is a superb opportunity to enjoy the spring weather, and we hope people will pick up a copy of the guide and find out what is available.”
Copies of the guide are also available across the area including Swadlincote Tourist Information Centre, in West Street, the Customer Services Centre, in Market Place, Burton, and Ashby Tourist Information Centre, in North Street.
