Scarecrow Trail 2011

The Ticknall Scarecrows Trail weekend was yet another great success, and once again the weather was kind to us. The winning scarecrows were

  1. number 42 Worzel Gummidge
  2. number 62 The Royal Balcony
  3. number 44 ET  (on the bike - there were 2 ETs)

Lots of people enjoyed doing the quizzes and the winners have been informed. If you wish to check the answers, the adult and the under-15s quiz sheets complete with answers can be downloaded via the DOCS link on the main menu at the top of the page

Although this is not primarily a fund-raising event (we just like to have fun, you know) we raised £2668.45 in total. The money is to be divided equally between this years three charities

  • The British Lung Foundation
  • The Melbourne British Legion - womens section
  • Ticknall Toddlers

The photos below are courtesy David Anderson. Thanks David - great job.

We had a fabulous time wandering the beautiful village of Ticknall, taking in the very impressive scarecrows on display - we also happily induldged in a spot of very nice tea and cake on The Green!

It was a lovely couple of hours with all the family and my daughter won the under 15's quiz which really made it even more special for her!

We really hope to have a trip to England next year that has us over at the right time for the Ticknall Scarecrow Trail 2012. Well done to all those involved with organising, you should be proud!

Hi,
I made a HD video which features most of the scarecrows at this years trail. Best viewed in fullscreen mode.

Here is my video of Ticknall Scarecrow Trial 2011:

Quoting Pete:

Or you could have intervened and stopped the truck causing the damage perhaps?

From my wheelchair I could not get his attention !!!.
I wished I had my legs back :(

I think its wonderful the effort that goes into this each year by the participants. Opening up the village in this way encourages an interest from the younger folk who tag along with the mums & dads etc. Well done on raising such a large sum. You should be proud. And yaballs to the miseries that only look for the negatives in life. See you next year.

It's going to cost you more than that to replace the damaged lamp post and light sensor at the village hall.
It was fun to see the re-cycling lorry turning around and catching the bunting you put too low and keep going and then the lamp post bent in half and the other end of the bunting pulled the light sensor off the wall above the public toilets.
Dam strong bunting.!
Nice work.
You might think before you put bunting up next time.

Ditto Rebecca Villard's comments. Was excited to attend for second year after thoroughly enjoying first visit in 2010. We love the atmosphere, England at it's best. A wonderful effort from the whole community, and some stunning exhibits. Royal Family, Stone the Crows and ET flying past the moon were awesome. Thanks you to all the villagers. Even those not exhibiting have to put up with the invasion....and yes, time to put the price up!!

Deciding to take a trip to Calke Abbey today, we were delighted to see the Scarecrow Trail as we drove through Ticknall village, determined to stop off on our way back. We had a lovely stroll through what has to be one of the prettiest villages in England and drank in the wonderful, cheerful atmosphere cultivated by the magnificent works of arts on display. What a fabulous effort the villagers have made in staging this event. It was very difficult to choose a favourite but I have to say that Worzil Gummidge, The Royal Family, Savile Crow and the Flying ET were superb.
Well done to everyone for the sterling efforts made in your fundraising event. We had a great hour and a half wandering around and everyone we passed seemed to be enjoying themselves equally.
It isn't often that I am compelled to write a note of congratulations but this afternoon's visit make me feel like I wanted to live in Ticknall too.
PS I would happily pay more than £2.50.
